In this video we cover:

  1. What is My Aged Care?

My Aged Care is a service that is provided by the Australian Government and acts as the main entry point to gain access to Australia’s government-funded aged care services. Aged care services are available for Australians 65 years and over and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50.

My Aged Care is made up of two parts:

    1. The contact centre and website where you can register into the system, get information about aged care services, discuss your ongoing needs, and receive general information about aged care options and supports that are available.
    2. Assessment services, which include the Regional Assessment Service (RAS who assess for entry- and low-level care, and the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) who refer for complex and longer-term care needs.
  2. How do I register for My Aged Care and aged care services?

To register for My Aged Care you will need to call the contact centre on 1800 200 422. When you call the My Aged Care representative will spend some time having a chat with you about your current situation and assist with a referral to an appropriate assessment organisation.

Ensure that you let the My Aged Care representative know if you require any immediate services such as personal care, nursing, meals or transport.

Your referral for assessment will be sent to an assessment service who will then call you to make an appointment for your assessment.

  3. When will I receive aged care services?

The assessor will come to your home to discuss your needs and to help plan for your future and create a support plan. This support plan may include referring you to an aged care service provider.

After the assessment is complete the assessor will send referrals for any services that you need to help meet your goals.

  4. What if my needs change?

After your assessment, if your needs change or you require any further assistance, you can call the My Aged Care contact centre who will assist you or if required they will put you in contact with your assessment organisation for a review of your plan.

You can access further information by visiting the My Aged Care website www.myagedcare.gov.au.
